Why Does a Chicken Cross the Road?

And just why does the chicken cross the road? Well, actually these are newborn wild turkeys. The mother turkey was teaching her new brood how to cross the road and she had traffic on a main road stopped from both directions. I wonder how many will be around for Thanksgiving?

Back in Time

This past weekend we stopped by the Walker Tavern and "stepped back in time". There were many exhibits demonstrating how our ancestors lived and fought for our country. There were also many hands on demonstrations which allowed us to learn about the various life skills necessary for our ancestors to survive. This was a great way to learn about our past history. Walker Tavern is an historic site on the corner of US-12 & M-52. US-12 was originally an Indian trail and later became a stagecoach route between Chicago and Detroit.

Hot Dog

This is our dog Sadie- who normally doesn't like to swim - she prefers wading. However, with the temperataure reaching over 90 degress she jumped right into the water and turned around as if to ask if I was going to join her. What a great way to spend the afternoon.

Follow the Light II

This is another picture I took while walking thru the Kitty Todd Conservatory near Toledo. The detail in the leaf caused by the backlighting caught my attention. It was a good distraction from the mosquitoes.

Follow The Light

While walking thru the nature conservatory near Toledo I noticed the sun catching this small tree. I liked the way the sun back lit the leaves. Even such a small tree has much to offer.

Sittin' on the Backporch

Wouldn't you just love to get up in the morning and sit on this backporch with a cup of java and listen to the surf hitting the shore, and the shore birds welcoming the new day? This back porch is very special - because it is attached to a lighthouse protecting the shores of Lake Michigan.

Reaching Upward

I liked this photo because it gives you the feeling of reaching up into the unknown. You aren't sure where it came from or where it might be going. It's being illuminated from above - by something bigger than all of us. It's elusive - only you can imagine what this is about. Enjoy.

Still Beautiful

While I was going thru a batch of photos that I took last week this photo caught my attention. The petals had dropped off and only the center and a few remaining outer petals remain. But still it brought a smile to my heart to see that even close to the end of it's life, you could still see the beauty. I also liked the way that the old petals framed this picture and leads your eye to the center.

Day's Of Old

We just had to stop and turn around and take this picture. It isn't often that you get to document gas at 35.9 cents/gallon. I'll bet there are kids driving today that have never purchased gas at that price - that was back in the good ol' days. Notice the chairs sitting in front of the store? This was where the locals came to share the news and shoot the breeze. That too, was in the good ol' days when neighbors talked to each other.

Full Speed Ahead

We found this instrument in a museum when we were touring the south eastern coast of Lake Michigan. It was an antique that came out of a great lakes steamer. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could get up in the morning and pull a lever to start the day? Watch out! - full speed ahead.......

Stop and Smell the Flowers

While driving thru southwestern Michigan we came across a nice little country park which was being enjoyed by a group of Amish folks. It was a really nice place to spend some quiet time - along a river with a dam and a water wheel. We were fortunate because many spring flowers were in bloom. Obviously, the horses were enjoying their green pastures also.

Eye of the Storm

This picture was taken this past week at MIS (Michigan International Speedway) from the infield. How different it looked just 2 days later. I liked the clouds and how they effect the mood of this picture.

Water Wheel

In Tecumseh (Michigan) there is an old building with a water wheel at the edge of town. The wheel still works and the building is no longer used for the manufacturing purpose it was built for. The building is now being used by the community for various activities. I am glad that this piece of history was saved for future generations.

Thru This Door

While driving around this weekend we came across
this old abandoned school. It was probably built in
the late 1800's and used until the mid 1900's.

I found the front door interesting. So I started to think
to myself -how many people have gone thru this door?
Did they have an effect on the world?
Did they change anything?
This led me to the thought "Is the world a better
place to live because we passed thru?"

Something to ponder.

Upward Bound

I like taking close up pictures of objects, so that you see the subject out of context - makes you stop for just a second to wonder what it is. This picture was taken inside of a lighthouse as we were coming down the spiral steps- more than 140 steps up - yipes!! I don't like heights - makes my stomach quiver just remembering - I didn't go out on the overhang when we got to the top, I just peeked thru the window and snapped a few quick shots.

Summer Blues

I stopped to take flower pictures at a neighbor's house and this is what I found in the backyard. What a surprise! Can you imagine sitting at this table in the early morning with a cup of coffee and listening to the birds.

On the Other Side

Have you ever heard the expression "The grass is always greener on the other side?" Here is an example of maybe not "greener" but "prettier." Early morning sunrise and an old wooden fence along the side of the road. I just coudn't resist. Had to turn around.

Heart and Soul

How many times have you looked into someone's eyes and thought you knew what they were thinking? If someone won't look at you when they are talking, what does that say to you? Is this also true for the rest of God's creatures?

Cat Nap

Another rainy day, can't work outside, might as well take a nap.

Do You See What I See?

The ability of nature to camouflage is really marvelous - even in unusual and difficult environments. Sometimes the little creatures really surprise me. Can you see the killdeer nest in the middle of the driveway? To mom's surprise, there are bright fluorescent traffic cones drawing attention to this spot, so that no one accidentally drives over her nest. I guess this could be an example of mother nature and humans working together.
