Michigan is surrounded on three sides by 4 of the 5 great lakes. We have 3,288 miles of shoreline. We have a lot of freighter traffic on our great lakes as long as the water isn't frozen. Because we are so far north we also have some terrific storms on the open waters which results in danger to the freighters. The lighthouses along our coastlines are becons of light and hope during the storms. This is just one of Michigan's 116 lighthouses which is located on the western coast of the lower pennisula. Have a great weekend.
