The Irish Towers - SkyWatch Friday

These two towers stand guard over the highway thru our region. I remember as a kid being able to climb to the top and seeing many lakes all around. Now the towers stand empty and neglected. If you are interested in their history follow this link.

My Town - MyWorld

I couldn't wait for this weekend. It was going to be the "First Annual Ice Festival" in downtown Tecumseh. 17 ice sculptures and a snowman contest. But the city planners forgot to consult with mother nature - ordinarily a break in the winter weather is a great thing. Instead we get above freezing temps and RAIN when we really wanted to have it freezing. I guess you can't win...

This shot was taken just before sunrise, standing in the middle of the street, pouring down rain. Handheld with a flash. I had to use a noise reducing software to get it to this point. I liked the colors of the Christmas lights and street lights reflecting in the water on the street.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for stopping by.

Winter Tree - Rollover

This is a tree in a storm that Greg saw one day when we were driving around. I wanted to try something new, so I made it more contrasty. If you roll your mouse over the picture, you can see the before picture. Which one do you like the best? Let me know - it's all about learning - and you can help me. Thanks for stopping by.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters - SkyWatch Friday

Here's a bridge over the Detroit River. It's cold, it's icy, but somehow beautiful.

Under the Mighty Oak Tree - MyWorld Tuesday

If only this beautiful oak tree could talk! You must drive past this mighty oak tree and continue down the long country lane to reach your destination. This would appear to be an ordinary house - but the local old timers know it's story. Just ask one of them about it and be prepared to listen to the stories.

It seems that this was the "summer" home of Henry Ford. He owned a large tract of land in this area and this was the house where he stayed overnight, entertained his friends and got to know the local folks. Mr. Ford's presence had a great impact on the local community, but that's for another day. I hope you enjoy the "summer home" in the winter.

This Ol' Tree - SkyWatch Friday

This is my SkyWatch Friday post for the week. Therefore, this picture is about the sky and the tree. I like the texture and color of both. The house is in the picture to add scale to the very tall tree. I believe this house was built some time in the mid 1800's which would lead me to think that perhaps this tree was planted around the same time. There are a number of farm houses on this road with similar architecture. This appears to be a multi generation house. During the summer there is a produce stand on this corner, and many people get a chance to stop and admire the house, while picking out their fresh home grown vegetables.

On The Street Where I Live Part 2 - MyWorld Tuesday

New snow and beautiful sky. When those two events occured this weekend, I got up the courage to venture out. The temperatures were in the single digits, but the white snow and blue sky were calling to me. After I warmed up my camera battery, everything worked fine.

In the fall I posted an image of this same farmsted with it's fall colors. I tried to stand in the same spot to take the same picture, however, there was about 3 feet of snow in the ditch. You can take a peek at that previous picture here. Thanks for stopping by.

Sunrise Over The Meadow - SkyWatch Friday

Even in the gloomy winter it is possible to have a beautiful sunrise. In the winter the sun wakes up so late that you can actually sleep in and still see the sunrise. How cool is that!

Good By to our Friend Sadie

On New Year's Eve we lost our faithful companion.

While looking for this picture so many memories came back to me of the times shared with her over the years of her long life.

I remember all the walks down the lane to the pond. No matter how much coaxing she would never go swimming - wading was her style. I remember throwing the frisbee until my arm ached. She would jump as high as she could to catch it in the air and then bring it back to start all over. While we worked outside, you couldn't set a water bottle down because she would snatch it. We had to chase her down as she chewed them to pieces (not good for the GI system). She would share her food and shelter with the cats and kittens, even when they wouldn't be friendly to her. She always greeted us when we came home - she recognized the sound of our car as we turned into the driveway.

Yes, gone but not forgotten. We'll all miss you.
