Good By to our Friend Sadie

On New Year's Eve we lost our faithful companion.

While looking for this picture so many memories came back to me of the times shared with her over the years of her long life.

I remember all the walks down the lane to the pond. No matter how much coaxing she would never go swimming - wading was her style. I remember throwing the frisbee until my arm ached. She would jump as high as she could to catch it in the air and then bring it back to start all over. While we worked outside, you couldn't set a water bottle down because she would snatch it. We had to chase her down as she chewed them to pieces (not good for the GI system). She would share her food and shelter with the cats and kittens, even when they wouldn't be friendly to her. She always greeted us when we came home - she recognized the sound of our car as we turned into the driveway.

Yes, gone but not forgotten. We'll all miss you.

  1. I understand your love for your dog. My daughter lost her cannine child in 2009. The memories will always be with you.

  6. When a friend lost her loved pet, I sent her the Rainbow Bridge Poem. It is a poem that I found on the Internet. My friend says the poem eased her pain a little bit; perhaps it will do the same for you.

    THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  7. So very sorry for your loss of sweet Sadie. We had three cats over the many years and they are now gone, too. Like you said, gone from sight but now mind and heart.
