Something For Everyone - MyWorld

We came across this interesting little work shop along the highway. It was in a small A-frame building, not much bigger than a one car garage. The gentlemen had hub caps everywhere - hanging on the outside of the building and all over on the inside. Apparently he collects, repairs and sells them. He was gracious enough to allow me to photograph him in his workshop. I'll bet he can spin an intriging yarn or two.

Riding the Waves - SkyWatch

Early in the morning, as the sun comes up, the pelicans begin their work day -following the waves, looking for breakfast. They follow each other - single file. I wonder how they determine the order - who follows who? After a while, they fly back along the beach and start over. The original wind surfers!

Sunday Afternnon Ride

This charming couple was sighted on US 12 as they were hunting for garage sale bargains last weekend. They still have room in the back for more items, unlike another couple that I know.

Birds of A Feather

These guys were having a good time in the backyard. They acted like they owned it. I thought I would try to sneak a picture, but I didn't have a telephoto lens - no problem. They walked right up to me to see what I was doing. When I stood up they were looking me straight in the eye only abut 4 feet away. Whew.....they are huge birds when you meet them eye to eye. I quietly backed off and let them have their yard back!

Piggy Bank - MyWorld

I am thinking that it would take a much bigger piggy bank to save enough money for this car. Oh well. One can always dream. We found this pair at a garage sale along US 12 last weekend.

Remember When - SkyWatch Friday

Garage Sale Advenetures continued: We found this cute little feed store in a small country town along the way. The Mail Pouch Tobacco painting on the side of the barn caught our attention. Follow this link to learn the history and story behind the Mail Pouch Tobacco barns.

Sweet Endings

Garage Sale Adventures continued: After 130 miles we decided this would be a good place to stop and put up our feet and enjoy a sweet ending to a wonderful day. Two scoops of butter pecan ice cream worked for me! By this time most of the people were covering their wares and disappearing. Besides that the Explorer was full. So we turned around and rattled all the way home.
Happy birthday dad. We miss you.

Heritage Trail Garage Sale - MyWorld

This past weekend was Michigan's annual Longest Garage Sale which runs the full length of US 12 - Detroit to Chicago meandering thru big cities, small towns, farmland and forests, up hills, and down hills. What fun!
The temperature was in the mid 90's, so it was rather hot. The bench was a welcome sight for tired feet but when I went to sit I noticed the sign "No Parking." I was wondering if that meant I couldn't park my butt on the bench or what! Never-the-less, it is great fun to watch the people and enjoy the summer fun.

The Grange - SkyWatch Friday

We stumbled upon this abandoned Grange building near Alma, Michigan recently. I kind of liked the way it was sitting at this intersection in the middle of the country. I could just imagine during the horse and buggy days, people coming here for meetings and social events - back when everybody knew their neighbor's, and helped each other out when someone was in need.

The Grange organization started around the end of the Civil War. Apparently it was much like a co-op, where people shared information and new technology with each other, and many other community events and functions. It's purpose and existence has changed and evolved thru the years.

Playing with Mother Nature

While visiting my mom in Florida this past weekend I had the opportunity to visit the beach. I have hundreds (maybe thousands) of photos of sunrises on the ocean. This time I wanted to capture something more creative. So I played with the waves. It was a battle between getting myself wet and NOT getting the camera wet.

Turn Around - MyWOrld

While photographing the beautiful sunrise I happened to turn around and see that I was not alone. There were a few people on the balcony enjoying the break of dawn. They each look lost in their own story. This photo reminds me that sometimes there are opportunities where you don't expect them. You may get a surprise if you turn around.

And the Road Is Long

Because my computer crashed, I had the opportunity to go through a lot of old images. I came across this one and it brought a smile to my face. At the time, we were looking for a picture to demonstrate the long road and the "loose livestock" sign with the appropriate "props" worked out surprisingly well. At least it brought back some fond memories.

Land of the Mist

In the early morning, waiting for the sun to burn off the fog, the only red boat would be my choice. If you enlarge the photo you can see that someone is already out on the water - a wonderful place to be at the crack of dawn.

Beauty and the Beast

Wild mustard grows wild everywhere in Michigan. It is sometimes considered a pest. It is sometimes beautiful. I noticed when cropping yesterday's MyWorld photo that in the corner of every photo was a wild mustard plant. This persistent little plant is struggling amongst a lot of heavy equipment traffic and unnatural obstacles for it's existence. I thought it deserved a little recognition for it's efforts.

The Eve of Destruction - MyWorld

This may look like a picture of a building being torn down, but it is a piece of history for me. I had my office in this building for a number of years and even though my office moved I still worked in this building right until it was closed. My office was on the top floor in the back corner. It wasn't there the next day. Progress can't be stopped.
