Tree of Knowledge -MyWorld

We found this interesting tree on the Thomas Edison/Henry Ford estate in Fort Myers Florida. I would say that between Henry Ford and Thomas Edison this tree was surrounded by much knowledge. For more MyWorld photos from around the world click here.

Deer hunting season opened this week. We found this mural painted on a garage out in the country. I thought it was appropriate for this week.

This Old House 2 - MyWorld

I like all the busyness in this photo. Lines going in different directions, the shape of the window, the missing window pane, the reflections in the window, the paint missing on the boards and the shadows. All tell a haunting story of better times in the past.

Never Forget The Price of Freedom

Take the time on this day to thank a veteran for their sacrifice to keep us free. And remember those who have gone before.

Muskegon South Pierhead - MyWorld

This lighthouse in on Lake Michigan. I liked the B&W version because it accents the beautiful red color of the lighthouse. Here is a brief history of this lighthouse.

Muskegon South Pierhead By Dave Wobser
Completed in 1903, this conical red tower replaced a shore light that had been built in 1852.
The light is at the end of a concrete pier on the south side of the channel that connects Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake. The tower is cast iron and stands 48 feet tall. The lantern room holds a Fourth Order Fresnel lens that is semi-circular and has a brass reflector panel. The light shines over 180 degrees of the horizon. The U.S. Coast Guard Station Muskegon is located on shore at the base of the pier. The light is located next to Pere Marquette Park on Beach Street, at the end of either Lakeshore Drive or Sherman Boulevard.
Also located in Muskegon, near the lighthouse, is the WWII museum submarine USS Silversides.

This Old Barn

I have a soft spot for these old barns. They are quickly disappearing, so I must hurry to document them all before they are gone from our memories.

SkyWatch Friday

Harvesting the grain is in full swing. Many of the farmers take their crops to a local grain elevator such as this to sell or store their crop. Most of these small elevators are near a rail road, so that the grain can later be moved to a larger storage location - awaiting further processing or shipment overseas.
I caught this local elevator in the early morning light just as the sun was waking up.

This Old Barn

I liked the lines, texture and colors in this photo. To me the tree branch shadows added another dimension by adding diagonal lines. The window just begs me to try to look inside.

From the Mighty Oak

We found this unique mushroom growing from the stump of an oak tree. All of the textures and lines caught my attention.
