This is a field of corn that has been "shocked." The corn stalks are ripened in the field, and then the farmer comes around with a large knife and cuts the stalks and bundles them together. Later when the grain has matured and dried, the stalks are moved up to the barn and the corn ears are removed to be fed to the livestock. The remaining stalk is used for bedding or fed to the cattle for fiber. This field is an amish field. You can see by the size of the field that this would require a great amount of group effort to complete the harvest. For more pictures from photographers around the world click here.
