Spring Part II - MyWorld

Another photo from the botanical gardens at Hidden Lake Gardens. The daffodils in our yard were set back with the freezing weather this week. But fortunately these are inside, protected from the ravages of March in Michigan.

Remembering the Feed Mill - SkyWatch Friday

A year ago in March the Atlas feed mill was destroyed in an arson fire. This historic mill served the community for more than 150 years. Next week the Historical Society is going to open an exhibit at the Clinton Township Public Library. They have gathered many memories of this old building. We were invited to share some of the photos that we took. Photos won't bring back the building, but they will bring back memories.

Patiently Waiting for Spring - Not Really

I just couldn't stand it any longer.....I've been patient...... waiting and waiting for spring. So I cheated! I went to the botanical gardens and enjoyed their spring exhibit. Before you even get into the room you can smell the hyacinths. What a sight for happy eyes.

An Exceptional Exception

Anyone who follows my blog knows that I don't usually post pictures of people. However, I just had to make an exception today. This week my sister was awarded the "Outstanding Full Time Teacher of the Year" award from Eastern Michigan University. The reception was held in the President's House on campus. Here she is with the President of EMU. We are sure proud to have her in our family!!!!

Side by Side - MyWorld Tuesday

The story: This photo was taken on the main drag thru the small southern Michigan town of Saline. You could easily guess that this is a farm scene. What you probably wouldn't be able to guess is that the background shows an automotive manufacuring plant. It used to be Ford Motor, but that's another story for another day. They share a common property line.

If only we could go back to the simple life! The story for this photo is that farmers (ranchers) and manufacturers (large and small) work side-by-side to make their product available to fellow Americans. I feel that they both need to be appreciated for their struggles and sacrifices - as each contribute to their community in their own way. For them I am grateful!

A River Runs Thru It - Sky Watch Friday

Albion is an old historic town in southern Michigan. The main street thru the historic district is paved with brick. We came to a spot about half way thru down town and noticed on the left side that a river was coming out from under the road - however on the right there were what appeared to be normal old stores. So we went around on the back street and sure enough as you can see here, the river goes under the road and the stores were built over the road. Amazing.

Painted Lady

This past weekend we attended a workshop in the southern Michigan town of Albion. We were a little early so we thought we would do some exploring this old and historic town. Can you imagine this beautiful and brightly colored house in the middle of a nice quiet neighborhood. What really made this funny is the fact that the color of the house was the same color as Greg's shirt! So he jumped out and I took a quick photo. P.S. No I didn't do any color enhancements....yes, this was really the color.

Another Sure Sign of Spring

Daffadills in our front yard. They all of a sudden appeared this week. We'll probably have blossoms next week. I can't wait.

First Signs of Spring MyWorld

Melting snow, return of the early migratory birds (robbins and sandhill cranes), giant potholes in the roads from the frost coming out of the ground, daffadils poking their tiny little heads out of the ground, newborn lambs, and collecting sap from the sugar maple trees. And they all appeared this last week. Life is wonderful!

A Tribute to My Dad

I came across this tree while walking in a snow storm last week. It caught my attention because of it's unique structure. I got to thinkin'...... trees are dependable, they are always doing their job, no matter the weather - good or bad - they do their job - you can count on them to always be there. They are dependable. They drink water to prevent flooding, they give shade, they provide homes for the birds in their branches, they provide protection from the weather and seeds for the next generation to carry on.

This week we laid to rest my father - my mother's husband of 69 years. He too was always there, he was dependable. He helped each of us get thru many storms in our lives. He gave us protection when we needed it. He gave us nourishment for both our bodies and our minds. He encouraged us to take on the challenges that would stretch us to the limits, knowing we would be stronger because of it. He taught each of us to honor and respect. His life will continue to influence the generations to come. We'll miss him....but we know he is in a better place and he will continue to watch over us. Till we meet again....
