Trick or Treat

The word Halloween is firstused in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Up through the early 20th century, the spelling "Hallowe'en" was frequently used, eliding the "v" and shortening the word. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra hālgena mæssedæg, mass-day of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not used until 1556.

Rust on Rust - SkyWatch

I am not a huge fan of modern art - but this piece caught my eye. A man-made rusty structure along with nature-made rusty leaves behind it under a brilliant blue sky. A feast for my eyes. At least it got me to stop and look! Oh alright, I did enjoy the contrast.

This Old Barn

So many of the old barns are being neglected and are falling down. This one appears to have a new tin roof and an attempt at some paint. I enjoyed this photo because of the textures and lines of each structure going in different directions.

Nature at Her Best - MyWorld

Blue sky and fall colors cool temperatures. Hard to beat. This old farm house has corn stalks tied to the pillars on the front porch. I guess they really get into fall.

Good Ol' School Days

This is the abandoned school from yesterday's post. It appears to still be used for something. I don't know what. They modernized it with a handicap ramp.

Walking in the Leaves

Remember when we were kids, how much fun it was to play in the leaves. Pile them up and hide in them. Or just walking thru the leaves, kicking them up as you went along. This is an old school house, it had a sew-saw and merry-go-round in the side yard. Long since abandoned, but still in good shape.

Perfect Ending To The Weekend - MyWorld

This was one of the last photos taken on the way home this weekend. The sun was setting on this family reunion, geese are flying overhead (click to enlarge), crops are in the field waiting for harvest, trees are at the peak colors. A perfect ending for a perfect weekend.

Smiley - MyWorld

Yep, his real name is Smiley. An old satellite dish in his pasture with his face on it. At least that's HIS story. He seems to be very used to being the center of attention.

Tools of the Trade - MyWorld

We found this bucket of old hand saws at a garage sale. It seems sad to me when the tools that were used to make a living to feed and clothe a family are sold to total strangers. I know that these went to a good home to be treasured for their sentimental value rather than their antique value.

Spokes of Times

An old grain drill. The farmer loads grain into the red hopper. As the tractor pulls the drill the grain falls thru the green tube into the soil that has been sliced by the green disk. Each different crop has different width rows, so it always had to be adjusted for the specific crop being planted. Needless to say, farmers are always busy.

Hard at Work SkyWatch

A beautiful fall day to watch an old fashion steam engine running an old fashion saw mill. I am glad these old pieces of equipment are still around to show us "youngsters" how it used to be done!

The Road Less Travelled........

We found this on a little travelled gravel road. I can only imagine the story. Any suggestions?

This little piggy..... My World

This little piggy was found attracting attention alongside the road next to a farmer's market. He is very fashionable. Made from various bales of hay and pumpkins. In order for you to get a feel of the scale.....his mid-section is made up of round bales - they weigh between 500-600 pounds and are about 5 feet in diameter. His legs are made of square bales which are 3-4 feet long. His meal of gourmet "corn on the cob" is on the table. Looks like dessert is in the background. What more could a piggy ask for!

Sittin' on the Front Porch

We had to turn around to check this out. I couldn't believe it. Out in the middle of nowhere, a full living room suite of leather couches on the front porch. Sure puts a new spin on "sitting on the front porch watching the cars go by." I wonder what they have in their "real" living room for furniture? Perhaps they could spend some of their money on a coat of paint.
