This historical Episcopal church in Fitzgerald, Georgia is like most churches - they have a welcoming attitude. If you look close you will see a beautiful rooster in the steps waiting to greet you. It seems that early on, when the town was new, the city founders were looking for ways to encourage people to settle in their community. They imported these pretty birds with the idea that they would turn them loose in the country and attract hunters. The birds didn't adapt to living in the wild and soon started hanging out in the local barnyards and the city streets. In fact they seem to prefer the city streets, lawns, and gardens. If you stop and listen, you can hear them crow all around you. They are now protected and thrive in the city.
